The Hinmans
The Hinmans' Journey to Phoenix and Ministry Vision
In 1989, David and Lissa Hinman moved to Phoenix with a church planting team, committed to reaching the entire valley for Jesus. Inspired by the cell church model, their passion was to help ordinary people recognize their unique role in God’s mission—both in their community and beyond.
Over the years, the Hinmans served in a variety of ministry contexts and roles. These included traditional church settings, a non-profit inner-city program, a large mega-church, a new church plant, a multi-site church, and smaller congregational settings. Throughout this journey, they experienced a broad spectrum of ministry environments, from team member to staff member, campus pastor, lead pastor, and beyond.
These diverse experiences ultimately led them back to their original calling: to see the Valley of Phoenix reached for Jesus and to equip everyday people to live out the Great Commission by making disciples. This vision became the catalyst for the birth of Phoenix Underground—a ministry designed to empower individuals to live out their faith in practical, impactful ways.
In addition to their work in Phoenix, David and Lissa serve as catalysts for prayer with New Generations, focusing on prayer as a key element in igniting a movement of God not only in Phoenix but across North America. David emphasizes the transformative power of prayer in sparking revival and spiritual renewal. Meanwhile, Lissa excels in connecting with individuals and discipling them, helping them discover who God created them to be and equipping them to fulfill their divine calling.
